I have been actively doing this job most of my adult life, over 15 years. I have a track record of well over 1,500 roofs and a 5-star Google Reviews rating. Almost every day I put on shingles. I have learned so much in that span of time. I have shingled every type of shingles out there and every brand while working for many different companies all over Canada. I know how to make roofs last and stay effective against the elements. My crew and I do all of the work ourselves. There are no subcontractors. This means you WILL get the same perfect work that the last 200 customers received. My confidence Is born from hard work year after year developing systems to make a great finished product.

This is the majority of roofing crews out there. I worked on many of them as a kid earning per bundle rates and my whole living depended on how fast I could put those shingles on. While these systems guarantee that the owners will not lose money either through subcontracting out for fixed rates where the sub has to hurry to make his living, or by paying out piece work so if they don’t go on no one gets paid. While I am not saying it is impossible for a fast crew to put on a good roof, there is a limit within reason.
We are fast but we make sure we are hitting the nail line and we take time and care on the trouble sections that require some extra TLC. Many worker-related issues won’t show up until quite a few years down the road and the tar lines have broken down. You have to be able to have some faith that the person way up there out of sight will do a good job. I will send photos through the whole experience showing you the quality of the work and inviting any questions that you have. More often than not, too fast is just too fast. But how can you blame them when their livelihood is in question. I pay my team hourly and well and do not make them work so fast that the quality suffers. I do not make money fixing anything I want perfect the first time!

Cheaper companies still make money. How. They make cutbacks - clearance shingles, cheap/unskilled labor, cash company so no insurance or wsib etc…

Lets talk about subcontractors. Most big company’s use them because its an unbeatable system for profits. You pay out a set amount for the work and they bring back a finished house you receive a set amount of profit guaranteed. Makes for a nice neat business in theory. This is the reality though, the set amount is not the highest rate. This makes the roofing crew have to fly through houses in order to make a living, and who wouldn’t because the faster you are the more money you make. This encourages sloppy work or makes people HAVE to go thought the complex areas quickly or their house will lose profit quickly for the subcontractor. I have been in this situation many times as a sub in the past, where doing perfect work equaled a lower rate of pay. The whole system is built around profits for the company, not providing a perfect roof for the customer. This is backwards. My company is dead focused on top quality work for every single house, I have the experience to do so and I work on every house, my guys are a direct reflection of my methods of roofing and we have been doing this together for a long time now. I only take on the work that I can finish I will not sub out or use another crew to complete your house!

 

I do not have huge overhead, a secretary, or a salesman. None of these things helps your finished product (the roof)

 

I do have Preferred Contractor status with BP Canada, WSIB, Insurance, Experience and a Great Team. ALL of these things are critical in producing a high quality roof!
